About The House on Chambers Road

Sometimes the past that comes back to haunt you isn’t yours…

Hoping to move beyond her husband’s death and the troubling secret that shadows her, interior designer Libby Casey buys an 18th-century property on the edge of town that she feels mysteriously drawn to. But the old estate holds a dark history, and soon after settling in, Libby discovers she’s not alone. As she investigates the estate’s past, looking for answers, she begins to suspect that the ghost haunting her is Hugh Peter Jones, the Welshman who built the place two hundred fifty years ago. Who was the enigmatic Hugh Jones? Why has he never left? And what does he want from her?

Fans of Daphne du Maurier, Susannah Kearsley, Simone St. James and Wendy Webb will love this gothic mystery with its rich details and compelling dual timeline.

ABOUT C.J. McGroarty

C.J. McGroarty worked as a journalist for more than 20 years, first as a reporter and editor at a weekly newspaper and then as a reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer.

At the Inquirer, she wrote news and features that ranged from front-page stories to profiles to community news, racking up more than 2,200 bylines in my 17 years there. Part of her job involved working with editors to shape, define and polish stories. For her, there was nothing more satisfying than to take an idea and turn it into an informative and readable piece of writing!

After leaving journalism, she earned a MFA in Creative Writing from Rosemont College and began writing fiction and nonfiction. Her work has been published in a variety of literary journals. She recently completed a novel called Clara in a Time of War, and is working on a collection of short stories.

She also teaches writing and English to adults and undergraduates in the Philadelphia area.

C.J. McGroarty loves working with writers and especially loves helping writers improve their work, whether with a simple proofread or copyedit, or an in-depth edit. She provides thorough, personal critiques that include track changes and notes on the manuscript and a separate summary review that addresses overall integrity, strengths and weaknesses.

Her goal is always to help writers create a stronger, more accomplished piece of writing. Once the editing is complete, she answers any questions the writer has through phone consultations or emails, and accepts payment by personal check or money order.
